2016 Will Be the Year of the Infographic

Infographics are really popular right now. Chances are, if you haven’t created one, you are planning to. In 2015, infographics were the fastest growing tactic for B2B content, up from 51% to 62% from the previous year.** It’s not surprising that they are so popular: Infographics relay complex content in a way that’s easy to digest. They’re effective because they use images to convey information—in fact, the Chief Marketing Officer Council reports that content with relevant images get 94% more views than content without relevant images.

 

How do you know when an Infographic is the right solution?

Despite their popularity, not all situations are best served through an infographic, so when clients call us wanting one, we ask them three key questions:

  • Do you have compelling data to share? (Preferably, a lot of data.)
  • Is your solution complex?
  • Do you have technical content that is easier to explain visually, through diagrams or illustrations?

If you can’t answer yes to any of these questions, than an infographic is probably not the best solution. But don’t worry! There are many other ways to tell your story. A solution brief, for example, is a one-page problem/solution overview that tells your story in a non-commercial way and would likely include expert opinions or analyst quotes. A video is ideal for highlighting customer successes, events, and more. Animated GIFs are a great way to demonstrate a product or concept in a memorable way. Slideshare is perfect for communicating more content in a way that is accessible.
